Duckling Saved

Yesterday we decided to get out and go for a little Sunday afternoon drive so we went to Draper and drove around an apartment complex with a lake. It is quite a large lake with grass around it.

As we were driving past I spotted a little baby duckling who had found himself stuck in front of the curb and could not get up to get to the lake to his mommy. He kept running back and forth down the gutter frantically trying to find a way to get up on the curb. It was so sad and I could not bear to leave it there, so Matt got out of the car to help him. As he was getting out the duckling got blown over by the wind! So cute! I was really feeling for this little guy. Matt cuped him up in his hand and put him on the sidewalk. He scurried on to the grass, down the hill and found the water. He was all the way across the lake from his mommy and siblings and because it was so windy and the water had lots of waves I was afraid this little duckling would get hurt or would not be reunited with his family, but Matt assured me everything would be fine and low and behold it was! As soon as the duckling made it to the water the mom swam over with his siblings all around her and she gathered him all up and they went on their merry way. It made us feel good to help this helpless little being who looked so frightened. Who knows what would have happened if we didn't stop to help.

Unfortunately this picture is all we could get. This was after they were reunited and on their way.
