Fun Stuff

Hmmmm....this week. Where do I begin? It hasn't quite been the best week of our lives I guess you could say. Kate woke up with a little cold (or so we thought) last Sunday. It continued to progress with coughing, sneezing, and wheezing (a lot of ing's) so on Thursday Matt took her to the doctor while I was at work. It ended up being Bronchiolitis, which is a lung infection caused by RSV. They put tubes in her nose and suctioned out her nasal pasages. She WAS NOT happy evidently. Poor baby! The nurse had to hold her arms up next to her head and Matt held her legs down so she wouldn't move...and you can guess how much she enjoyed that! They told us to take her to the hospital again in a couple days if she continued to have wheezing. Thank goodness she didn't so we have been able to manage it at home.

After that lovely appointment Matt met me at my doctor's appointment. I have an ear infection that is just not going away. It is swollen so I can't hear out of it. I feel like I am in a tunnel and that I am in my own little world oblivious to what's going on.

My doctor's appointment is in the same building as Matt's appointment, which was right after mine. He had seen the doctor the week before and they put him in a boot. This was a follow-up appointment. The doctor took a look at it and decided he needed to have surgery right then. They took x-rays and labs and then sent us directly over to the Riverton Hospital where we proceeded to be sent from place to place until we ended up in a patient room in the Med/Surg unit. I had my parents come pick up Kate and met Matt's parents at the hospital. They cut out all of the infected areas (hopefully) and put antibiotic beads (whatever those are) in. The next day we went back to the hospital to have a picc line put in. This is a long, small tube that is inserted into a vein in his arm, and goes up the arm to a large vein in the chest near the heart. He uses this to put in antibiotics 3x per day. We have Home Health come to our house to assist him with this. He will have to have follow up surgery on Wednesday to take out the beads and sew it up. He is now on crutches for maybe 2 to 3 months. No fun!

So needless to say it has not been a very fun weekend for any of us over at our house. We are definitely hoping this week will be lots better, full of healing!
