Thursday, February 21st I woke up with great anticipation. I was going to have a sweet little baby girl by the end of the day.
I had to wait for the call to find out when I could go in to the hospital. The day before they told me they would have me go in anytime between 5 am and 11 am the next morning. Of course I woke up at 5 and they finally called after what seemed like forever at 8 telling me to come in at 9 am.
I got so excited. We got ready, took Katie to school and then headed to the hospital. It was a nice little drive just the two of us.
This is me 39 weeks and 4 days pregnant.
At about 11 am I was all hooked up with an IV and labor had started. I had dialated to about a 3 at this point and was having really little and pretty painless contractions. They increased my Pitocin about every hour.
My mom was able to come and be with me at around noon. I felt bad because nothing was really happening and it was pretty boring.
At 1:30 pm I was at about a 4. My doctor decided to break my water. I was expecting my labor to really pick up at this point and when it didn't I was disappointed. It had already felt like a long morning/day, but by 2:30, only an hour later, I was really starting to feel the contractions and decided to get an epidural.
Yup! Epidural's are amazing!! I can't imagine going through this without one. I couldn't feel the contractions really at all. We put some shows on and waited, and waited and waited. At about 3:30 pm I had increased to about a 6 and they said I should move quickly. I really thought I would have her by 5.
Unfortuantely our plan for Katie didn't work out so my mom left and picked her up from school. I was worried I would have her while she was gone. Luckily she had not yet made her arrival by the time they came back. Katie was really worried about me. She kept saying, "Mommy owie" over and over again. She wouldn't even come near me. She had fun playing, though and enjoyed being with her daddy and grandma. We put on the movie "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" for her to watch.
At about 6 or 6:30 pm they said I was ready to go. Matt's sister Sarah had graciously agreed to come to the hospital and take some pictures of the birth for us and she was on her way. As soon as she got there I started to push. I only had to push through 5 contractions so about 8 to 10 minutes and she was here!!
Amelia Ann was born at 7:06 pm. They placed her on my tummy, but she was backwards so I could only see her little bum, but that was enough. I was in love!! When they turned her around for me I just couldn't believe it. She was perfect.
She weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces. I was like, "what!" I didn't expect her to weigh that much. No wonder I had so much pelvic pain the last few weeks of pregnancy. She was 21 inches long.
This was as close to me as Katie would get.

We just missed Katie givinh her new little sister a kiss. She was so cute with her!
